How to sign up for Voicethread.
Posted by Lois on March 8, 2009
This is a step by step guide for teachers to sign up for a free educator account on Voicethread.
1. Go to Voicethread and click on Register.
2. Continue to Register for a new account
3. Continue to fill in the details but click on the Educators link not the register button.
Fill in the details about your school to prove you are an educator and use your edumail or school email address in the School email address section.
Click on “apply” and then all you have to do is click on the link that will be sent to your school email address.
You now have a free educators account. You can upgrade to the Pro Educators account for a one off payment of $10 which will give you more storage. Compare the two accounts and decide what is best for your needs.

Hi Pam, I’m glad it will be useful. I hope it will make getting started on VT easier for teachers who want to give it a try. I know some teachers on my staff are keen.

Thanks Lois – I too will put it to good use.
I am about to check out a site that allows students to put forward an argument and other students around the world will contribute to a discussion – similar to an online debate.
This is the message I got from Emma (another one of the Ultranet Coaches) She has started an argument and invited me to it.
“Hi all,
I was just surfing and found this site. I thought that it looked interesting and may be of interest to some of our teachers. It is a site where you can post an argument and invite others to debate with you.
Emma has shared an aMap with you and challenged you to an argument.
Check our their aMap here :http://www.amap.org.uk/view/?map_id=1301 ”
Cheers,
H

Lois,
Interesting responses from the little ones. They showed such insights that are so critical to the moral fiber of one’s being. Very interesting concept. Just wondering whether the central screen where the koalas are does anything at all and can the group all work on one voice thread remotely ie through the internet at their own time and space. Or do the kids have to use the one same computer in class.

Hi Judith
This was our first Voicethread. Usually the screen has a static image but you can have multiple screens. We have a “Harmony Day” Voicethread where you can see student’s original art work and collaborative comments from students in Illinois, USA. (http://voicethread.com/share/403846/)
There are a number of options for a Voicethread subscription but for now I’m using a basic Educators subscription which means I own the account. I log in and the students add their comments on one computer. (I’m not sure if it allows multiple log ins or not.) This works well for us because the students make their sound files on their own computers, save them to a common folder and then we upload them as they are finished.
